Before the procedure

Fasting will be required before the procedure. No meals / drinks should be taken within 2 hours of the procedure.

During the procedure

During the procedureNitrous oxide sedation is given in the dental chair. You will breathe the sedation gas through a small nosepiece that sits on your nose. It does not cover the mouth. The nitrous oxide makes you feel sleepy and relaxed. You will still be aware of what is happening around, but can feel dreamy and floaty, warm, or have tingling in hands and feet.

While giving the nitrous oxide, the dentist will monitor the level of sedation to ensure that you can still cooperate and follow verbal instructions.

The dental treatment will be carried out. Local anaesthesia injections may also be given so that you don't feel pain. These can be given while you are sedated.

After the procedure

The recovery is quick once the dental treatment is completed. You will be observed for a brief period following the sedation.
